Initially Kimberly first debuted on broadway November 10, 2022. “Kimberly” giving an association of strength and royalty, and “Akimbo” a demeanor of having the hand on the hip and the elbow turned outward, visualizes the challenge Kimberly is facing, and the identity she is building.

Played by Victoria Clark, a highly praised Americal Actress and Singer, with major productions includingThe Light in the Piazza, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Caroline, or Change. The actress has gained various recognitions including the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, Outer Critics Circle Award, and others.

With Victoria’s knack of directing, David Lindsay-Abaire’s scriptwrite and musical gift, and Jessica Stone’s remarkable storytelling - Kimberly was brought to life so beautifully. Written in 2000 by the award-winning David Lindsay-Abaire, Kimberly Akimbo is a performance that revolves around the judgment of Time, Identity, and Resilience.

Kim is a brilliant, funny, and couragious Jersey Teen, with, A disorder that made her look like a 72-year-old lady, making her physical age four and a half times older than her actual age. Directed by Jessica Stone, the cast starred Victoria Clark as Kimberly, with Justin Cooley, Steven Boyer, and more. The musical has won several prestigious awards including 5 Tony Awards!

The 2 hours and 20 minutes performance, which made its first appearance on Broadway in 2022, is about the quest of an average teen, with an a rare condition, going through ordinary high school experiences including her first love, dynamic family, and teenage identity crises. Presented by the astonishing Durham Performing Arts Center, the performance is stepping into the spotlight of Durham, on Wednesday 30th April 2025. The musical combines the two polarities of a teen, one struggling with unreal aging issues, and the other as an ordinary adolecent going through her phases.

Kimberly Akimbo has the power to resonate with the audience through curiosity, and deep reflection, regarding one's life perspective and the strength to overcome adversity with self-assurance, regarding one’s life point of view and the strength to challenge suffering. While packing so many life lessons behind the curtain, the show can also be LOL funny, and dark! Kimberly uses her humor as a coping mechanism for life and much of the emotional burden that her affliction brings.

Kimberly’s dearest relationship is with Jaff her friend, a sophomore, who likes to tingle with his words, and emotional complexicity much of the time. Apart from her loving relationship with Jeff, one can hardly say more, her mother “Pattie”, is a hypochondriac, frequently remote and emotionally unavailable often seeming to be caught up with her emotions. “Buddy” Kimberly’s father is an heavy drinker who usually fails to demonstrate a good father figure, and then there is “Aunt Debra” an eccentric con-artist, who’s entire interest was pulling successful schemes at any cost.
