The Book Of Mormon Tickets
Durham Performing Arts Center | Durham, North Carolina
North Carolina, you’re in for the best kind of surprise as The Book of Mormon, one of Broadway’s wittiest, cleverest, and most amusing shows is arriving and performing in Durham on Saturday 12th April 2025 at the one and only Durham Performing Arts Center! Take part in a musical viewing that makes you fall in love with classical musicals, full of unrestrained and comedic twists.
Produced from the minds of the creators of the famous comedy TV series South Park and the play Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon tells the story of two Latter-day Saints (LDS) missionaries, Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, as they try to convert local villagers in Uganda. In similar fashion to their previous creations, the musical takes the serious theme of religion and satirizes it through both writing and music.
As Ben Brantley of The NYC Times states, just like South Park, it is “also blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak. But trust me when I tell you that its heart is as pure as that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show”.
Make the most out of your chance to be part of the audience and get a seat to this unforgettable show, before they're all gone!
Debuting in 2011, The Book of Mormon has undoubtedly been one of the most thriving Broadway musicals since its inception. Conceptualized by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez, the musical is based on the Latter-day Saints (LDS) founder and prophet Joseph Smith and his Book of Mormon. The show was intended to premiere off Broadway at the NYC Theatre workshop after its 2008 staged reading, though this turned out to be just a prelude as its actual debut in 2011 moved to a more prominent location at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.
Because of a successful first year, the play was already approved for a U.S. national tour that lasted four years, including a run in Salt Lake City, Utah, which marked the first time it would be performed there. The show also proceeded to be produced in several locations, with a Chicago production staged in 2012, a West End production in 2013, and Australian and European productions both produced in 2017.
The story and execution of this musical were key elements to this success. It narrates the story of Elder Kevin Price and Elder Arnold Cunningham, two Mormon missionaries who aim to spread their religion in a remote village in Uganda. It is there that they contend with the indifference of the locals, as well as their opposite methods in spreading their faith, given that Cunningham chooses to teach the villagers by tacking on fictional parts from science fiction and fantasy stories into his religious teachings, while Price is bent on teaching the villagers in the usual, orthodox manner. The way the Book of Mormon is shared with the audience is told in quite an unorthodox manner as well, usually satirizing religion in its script and also injecting comic entertainment in both of its acts, and of course, let's not forget the showtunes!
For its current run, the Book of Mormon will be in Durham in April at the magnificent theatre venue of Durham Performing Arts Center, which holds an excellent stage, sound system and acoustics, and favorite facilities that is fit for this word-class show.
